Come June 16th, owners of some of Fanatec's most popular direct-drive wheelbases are about to receive functionality previously reserved for newer hardware, with the company confirming that its FullForce technology is coming to the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro via a free firmware update.
Rather than introducing new hardware, Fanatec is extending software-based capabilities to products that have already been on the market for several years. The upcoming update will enable FullForce support on both the CSL DD and Gran Turismo DD Pro platforms, expanding access to the company's advanced force-feedback system.
FullForce works by adding high-frequency vibration data alongside conventional force feedback. The result is more detailed information reaching the driver's hands, including sensations linked to engine operation, surface texture, grip changes and vehicle behaviour.
Until now, FullForce has largely been associated with Fanatec's newer ClubSport DD and ClubSport DD+ wheelbases. Support for Gran Turismo 7 was also introduced with the game's Spec III update, although compatibility has been limited to select hardware. Bringing the technology to the CSL DD and GT DD Pro means a much larger section of Fanatec's user base will gain access to enhanced feedback effects without purchasing a new wheelbase.
The CSL DD, launched in 2021, quickly became one of the most influential entry-level direct-drive systems on the market. Some would say it kick-started the slightly more affordable world of direct-drive that we sim racers live in now. The Gran Turismo DD Pro followed as the official PlayStation-compatible variant, offering either 5 Nm or 8 Nm of torque depending on configuration.
Because both products sit below Fanatec's ClubSport range in the hierarchy, many users expected FullForce to remain exclusive to newer models. Fanatec's decision to backport the technology represents a notable extension of support for older equipment.
Fanatec announced the update during its recent product showcase, with firmware deployment expected shortly afterwards. Community discussions and company communications indicate that the FullForce-enabled firmware for the CSL DD and GT DD Pro hardware is scheduled to arrive in June.
One caveat remains: game developers must also implement support for the feature. While titles including iRacing, Gran Turismo 7, Assetto Corsa EVO and Project Motor Racing already support FullForce on compatible hardware, individual games may require updates before CSL DD and GT DD Pro owners can take full advantage of the new functionality.
